Reiki Principles
Reiki is not a religion.
It is a holistic health practice and alternative healing therapy. Nevertheless, it has underlying principles that people around the world
will recognize as part of their own religious heritage. The
principles underlying the practice of Reiki energy healing are simple , but powerful,
ethical principles. They are principles for life and living that
strengthen the practitioner's powers to heal self and others.
Because there is such a
strong oral tradition in Reiki, the basic principles have appeared in
several different forms. Arnold and Nevius (1982) stated the
principles of Reiki this way:
-
Just for
today, I will give thanks for my many blessings
-
Just for today, I will not worry
-
Just for today, I will not be angry
-
Just for today, I will do my work honestly
-
Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor every living thing.
Baginski and Sharamon'
(1988) gave a slightly different version:
-
Just for
today, do not worry.
-
Just for today, do not anger.
-
Honor your parents, teachers, and elders.
-
Earn you living honestly.
-
Show gratitude to everything.
Both of these versions have the same
focus and touch on the same points. They are words that
promote calm and human kindness.
