Massage Therapy Sessions
Massage therapy
sessions typically last 30-90 minutes. Exactly how long a massage
therapy session lasts, however, depends on the the particular massage
therapy technique used.
Sessions usually begin with the therapist asking questions intended to
isolate and define the client’s distress. Questions concerning
relevant medical history are also asked.
For longer,
traditional massage therapy sessions, (see
Swedish massage) the therapist will
leave the room so that the client can undress in private. During a massage
therapy session, the client will usually lie on a special massage table.
Sheets are used to “drape” the client’s body during a session. The
sheets are systematically moved about by the therapist to reveal only that
part of body undergoing massage. Special massage oils may be used to
lubricate the therapist’s hands.

Because it is
important for the person seeking massage to relax, clients are always
encouraged to tell their therapist about anything that may make them
uncomfortable.
