Reiki Training
Many people who
pursue Reiki training are health care
professionals. However, a person does not need a special
background or particular educational credentials to receive Reiki training.
Anyone with an honest interest in understanding and using their natural powers
of healing can train to become a Reiki practitioner.
The basics of Reiki training can be learned from books. There are many helpful
books
and
e-books
on the market. However, in learning to become a Reiki practitioner, many
individuals seek out an experienced teacher to oversee their training.
Until recently, Reiki masters have argued
that learning the art and practice of Reiki energy healing ultimately
requires some form of live, supervised, Reiki training. This kind of
Reiki training is usually provided in short (1-2 day) workshops conducted
at locations throughout the world. Today, however, many Reiki
masters believe that Reiki training does NOT have to take place in a live
workshop.
Because Reiki training workshops are often
expensive and sometimes difficult to find, many individuals now turn to on-line and home study
courses for Reiki training (see
Learning Reiki at Home).
In any case, the finer points of Reiki training are said to be learned by actually
doing healings. The flow of healing energy itself strengthens and teaches
the healer.
Attunement
Because much of our knowledge of Reiki
has been passed down orally, from teacher to student, there are now a number of different "schools" of Reiki
energy healing. While there are great similarities across the various
schools, each has its own view on the best approach to Reiki training. For example, the various schools differ somewhat on the
number of levels of Reiki training required to reach the level of "master".
There is general agreement, however, that each level of Reiki training must
begin with an attunement.
Traditionally, an attunement is a ritual or ceremony conducted by a
Reiki Master. Here the Reiki Master uses Reiki symbols, sounds, and gestures to
connect the student to the universal source of ki. The ceremony
opens the student to the source of ki so that he or she can access and
channel it in future healings. The initial attunement ceremony
forever changes the student; the attunement creates a healer.
At each succeeding
level, the amount of healing energy available is increased and the power
to channel it is enhanced. At the highest level of Reiki training, the practitioner passes from
student to master, and may now become a teacher of Reiki.
During an attunement, the student is
likely to experience a variety of sensations. Visions, colors, sounds,
disembodied voices, and tingling sensations have all been reported.
