Acupuncture And Depression
Can Acupuncture Be Used to Treat Depression?
Even though depression is a mental disorder and not a physical ailment, many practitioners believe that acupuncture can be usefully applied to
it. On the other hand, most scientists and medical professionals do not believe that acupuncture
has anything to offer. They do not believe can do anything to help those who suffer from depression. But, there have been a few encouraging studies. Studies have shown that since acupuncture is itself a relaxing treatment, it may help people deal with their depression. Studies have shown that after a routine of several weeks of acupuncture sessions to treat depression that sixty six percent of the women treated felt better and functioned better after treatment. Follow up visits showed that they dealt better with their daily lives and the people in it.
If there is a way to treat depression without the use of unending antidepressants, antipsychotics, and mood enhancers than that is a method that should be encouraged. However, depression can be a such serious and dangerous disorder that the use of acupuncture as a treatment modality should be undertaken with caution. Do not start acupuncture for depression on your own. Always check with a physician familiar with alternative medicine before beginning acupuncture for depression. |
